Listen to your elders...

A few (green) minutes with Andy Rooney… 2

The old codger has been haunting my Sunday evenings for more than three decades. When I was a kid, “60 Minutes” opinionator Andy Rooney was kinda entertaining; his “common sense” rants about the stupidity of daily life appealed to my pre-pubescent world view.

And as I got older, it was still fun to watch the old guy rant about whatever had pissed him off the past week. But at a certain point, like after watching his routine for 20 years, it got annoying. Then, after another 10 years, it became sad. One man dedicates his entire life to cranky diatribes. Can you spell R-E-T-I-R-E?!

Then, when you think there’s no end to the train wreck, Rooney surprises you like he did last night. Rooney, the man who probably still rues the day Marconi invented radio technology, says he’s worried about global warming.  Take a watch:

Russ Walker is an East Coast refugee who landed in Seattle in July 2008. He’s executive editor of the site, which means he spends a lot of time trying to be optimistic about cutting CO2 emissions … and coming up with puns that work with “COP-15.”

It's always hard to tell with Rooney, does he really think the danger of massive ice shelfs breaking from Antarctica is that they might drift into the U.S.? I don't think he mentions rising sea levels once. Good for trying, but get it right.

i thought that lefties despised the use of "fear tactics" for political gain.

"...it may be wrong to suggest impending doom, but if doom is not impending, its out there somewhere."
"...doom is what we're facing.  if running out of oil doesn't scare you, maybe an iceberg the size of connecticut floating away from antarctica AND HITTING THE UNITED STATES WILL GET YOUR ATTENTION!"

the explanation for climate change is so elaborate and detailed that the average believer could never interpret the science.
the excuse for conservation (environmentalism) is so simple that a senior citizen with braidable eyebrows is able to translate the "common sense" for a 2 minute television segment.
