DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR (We are currently accepting applications for this position.) Grist (www.grist.org) seeks a personable, entrepreneurial, experienced development director with proven success designing and executing a full range of philanthropic fundraising strategies. As the country's leading online source of environmental news and analysis, Grist informs, inspires, and links America's next generation of green citizens. Grist is a nonprofit organization; its funding sources include foundations, major donors, advertising, and thousands of devoted readers. And if there's one thing we like more than reporting and riffing on environmental news, it's having the money to keep our organization running. That's where you come in! Job Description: This is an exciting time at Grist: we've set forth on a multi-year, organization-wide campaign we call Grist 2.0. Grist has grown fast and will continue to do so. As part of our strategic plan, we anticipate growth in contributed income from $2.5 million to $4 million within three years. The Grist Board of Directors and executive team are committed to investing in our development capacity to support this goal. The development director will be responsible for designing and executing Grist's fundraising plan. Reporting to the president and working closely with board members, the director will be part of Grist's management team and supervise our growing development staff. We're looking for someone who can quickly build on the organization's successes; play a hands-on role in expanding the development program, including the creation of a major individual donor program; successfully solicit five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts from both individual and institutional funders; and excel at planning, implementation, and evaluation. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with an energetic personality who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Experience and contacts in the progressive funding community, as well as in the political world, are preferred. Job Description: This position will lead a team of five people responsible for the publication of all web content and projects related to the web site. In addition to managing day to day publishing, we are seeking an energetic and experienced candidate to help lead the team as the organization grows and expands. Grist is increasingly taking advantage of Web2.x publishing opportunities - user-interactive content, dynamic syndication, social-distribution - which will be a significant focus of this position. Grist's production output will include traditional websites, RSS feeds, tailored email, audio, video, widgets, and will evolve toward technologies that haven't been developed yet. The Web Production Manager will play a vital role in Grist's daily publishing, coordinating schedules, priorities, and bridging the gap between Grist writers and Grist readers.
